PURPOSE

“Rewriting is writing.”

Now that you have your notes, focus each rewrite pass on one thing at a time.

Trying to fix everything at once creates chaos.

Example rewrite passes:

• Pass 1: Structure - make sure tension and stakes escalate.

• Pass 2: Character - deepen motivations, make actions reveal personality.

• Pass 3: Dialogue - read it aloud and cut what sounds false.

• Pass 4: Tone and pacing - ensure it fits your intended genre and rhythm.

Keep what works. Cut what doesn’t. Be ruthless but kind to yourself.
